Dynamics of solids and soft matter

Welcome to the homepage of the Böhmer Group!

The research work of our group aims at characterizing and elucidating the properties of technologically relevant solids and soft-matter systems by studying atomic motion processes. The materials we study usually do not have an ordered, crystalline structure. However, structural and dynamical disorder is crucial to the function of these materials, which we explore simultaneously using nuclear magnetic resonance, linear and nonlinear shear rheology, and electrical impedance spectroscopy, as well as complementary computer simulations. Our current research projects focus on charge transport, mechanical stability, and atomic hopping processes in lithium-containing solid-state electrolytes, in ionic and molecular liquids, in polymer melts and glass-forming pharmaceuticals, and in exotic ice phases.
