The solubility and bioavailability of pharmaceuticals in their conventional, crystalline dosage form is poorer than in their amorphous state. To use pharmaceuticals as drugs in their amorphous form, amorphous solid dispersions are used in which the active ingredient is mixed with a water-soluble matrix that counteracts the crystallization of the active ingredient.
On the one hand, we study the molecular processes of amorphous pharmaceuticals that affect solubility and crystallization, and on the other hand, we prepare amorphous solid dispersions with a water-soluble polymer as matrix and use dielectric as well as shear rheological spectroscopy to study these materials in the glassy state.
